HOW AND WHERE IS SPE AN ALTERNATIVE TO EXISTING INDUSTRIAL ETHERNET INFRASTRUCTURE AND WHERE IS SPE EVEN CONQUERING COMPLETELY NEW AREAS?

Industrial Robot

Keep Moving

Industrial robots present high demands on cables and other supply lines for apparatus with which the robot fulfils its current task. Several axes are set in motion during an operation and bend or twist cables several thousand times during a working life. For this reason, cable manufacturers offer Ethernet cables specially optimized for these applications. The highly flexible cables have finer strands that can withstand significantly more work cycles. The thinner a copper conductor is, the less plastic deformation plays a role and the material only undergoes elastic deformations. Analogous to this principle: the thinner the more flexible, SPE cables also offer significantly higher numbers of possible work cycles in robotic applications.  This longer service life means considerable cost savings.

ICE Train

DIET FOR BOARD ELECTRONICS

In vehicle construction, the subject of weight has always been of increased interest. Not only since more awareness of energy consumption and environmental pollution has been developed. A higher vehicle weight, pragmatically speaking, also costs more energy to accelerate and thus simply more money for the operator. Modern trains are equipped with countless kilometres of wiring for on-board entertainment systems, which also entail considerable weight. Here, too, there is enormous potential for savings.

A weight saving of 35% for cables and small connectors initially sounds like very little if you look at a wagon weighing several tons. However, if one recalculates and considers the length of data cabling in modern trains, SPE is a real diet for on-board electronics.

Single pair cables save 1.6 kg weight per 100 meters of cable compared to standard Ethernet cables.  The savings potential of a wagon is approx. 21,000 euros per 100 metres of cable in 40 years of operation.

Automatisierte Fertigung

From the cloud to every sensor

Ethernet as a technology dominates data transmission worldwide. With SPE as an additional physical layer, the Internet protocol can enter completely new applications. In addition, it is the only infrastructure that closes the gap between the control level and sensor-actuator networks. SPE brings GBit Ethernet cost-efficiently to the sensor/actuator level of automation for the first time. Gateways, BUS couplers and translators are no longer required. Up to now, the automation pyramid has been divided into two large parties: the field level with its analog BUS systems and everything above. In order to close this media gap, one cannot do without gateways. Until now.

With SPE, for the first time a language can be spoken from the cloud to every sensor. The field level and all its participants become real-time capable, smart and thus part of the IIoT.

SPE Switch

THE SIZE DECIDES

T1 Industrial style device sockets save space and allow meaningful use in the smallest housings and devices. Slim sensors or miniaturized switches can be significantly reduced in size with SPE sockets.

This saves material and therefore costs in housing construction. Another important component for the successful miniaturization of industrial devices.
